The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has a history of struggle in our country, where we had to face and fight historical injustice, which was committed by the Apartheid regime for decades where Black people, Africans in particular, were discriminated against, and where the system of racism which we regard as crime against humanity, was put in the statue books in order to oppress and exploit on the basis of color. This oppression affected all aspects of life for Blacks and Africans. They were victims of the Colour Bar Act, and they were victims of inferior education (Bantu education). As Black people, we were condemned for the rest of our lives to super oppression and exploitation as a result of the Union of South Africa of 1910, between English and Afrikaner capital, where black people were not allowed to be part of the ownership and control of the South African economy. It is this brutal oppression that kept Nelson Mandela in prison for 27 years, and it is this brutal oppression that killed Steve Biko for fighting for equality between Black and white people, and for fighting for genuine democracy and for the liberation of the Black child. It took decades to fight against this unjust racist system, and many sung and unsung heroes, old and young, died in the trenches fighting for freedom. They were very resolute that freedom is love, freedom is peace and they were committed that whilst many were to die, they were determined to fight for freedom of future generations to come.

We want to sincerely be upfront that whilst we are believers of separation of powers in any democratic dispensation, the sustained injustice that has consistently visited Mumia Abu-Jamal who has been kept in jail in what we believe and regard as unjustifiable reasons, compelled us as the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa for years now, to be part of the international justice campaign in support of freedom of political prisoners in the world who have been victims of various political systems at whose center stands injustice. We firmly believe that the time has come that justice must prevail and Mumia Abu-Jamal must be set free. We humbly submit to you that you happen to be in a historical moment and our clarion call to the US and its institution of justice, and the judiciary which must further the aims of justice and humanity, is that we are of the view that as an honorable judge, you must be on the right side of history, as this very history has afforded you the opportunity to correct this injustice [faced by] Mumia Abu-Jamal. We firmly believe it is about time to set him free and he has served his sentence and justice must prevail.
It is our take that Mumia Abu-Jamal is a political prisoner whose basic human right to justice has been violated by the American judicial system. Mumia is an African-American journalist and former member of the Black Panther Party. He has been languishing in prison for the last 42 years for the crime of allegedly killing a white police officer, Daniel Faulkner in 1981. He was initially sentenced to death, but that was later commuted to life. He has spent the bulk of his sentence in solitary confinement, locked in a cell for 23 hours a day.
Our commitment to humanity and justice compels us to call on you to consider that in the recent past Abu-Jamal, whose prison conditions have taken a toll on his overall well-being, also taking consideration the fact that he has lost his life partner and wife Wadiya Jamal passed on in December of 2022 while furthering the aims of his release. In the course of history, our international solidarity campaign to release Abu-Jamal which makes a humble clarion call to you Honorable Judge to ensure that justice prevails, is that we have resolved to continue to be strengthened by our belief that it is humanity that believes in justice that has always changed the course of history. That humanity that advances the struggle for justice changes the world not in conditions of its own choosing. But it is the forces of justice and humanity that make the world a better place against the forces that are fueled by greed.
I find it appalling that Bush and Cheney brag about torturing people something our first president adamantly despised and forbid as was the way until these two step into power. I am hopeful that we will earn back our respect in the world but it's not going to happen with our current president or democratic leaders and if the GOP receives any more power it may never happen. The most disappointing thing is this may not happen in my lifetime. Since my birth I have watched the American dream, upward mobility and basic care for all Americans wideied away by ignorance and the greed that exploits and encourages it continuance. I thought we had hope for real change with this president but he's no better than the last and any good he did is minimized by all the backward compromises. David - NY
Freedom without life is meaningless. Victims of terrorism the world over are not offered a choice. They are brutally deprived of their lives and therefore of their freedom. There must be a balance between the protection of our rights and the protection of our lives. The latter comes first. Therefore, if there is no other choice, it is better to have a few people imprisoned wrongly than many more innocents blown to bits because civil libertarians insisted on letting suspected terrorists go. If you disagree with this logic, I suggest you re-examine your priorities. J.j. - CA
The US Supreme Court recognized that even during the civil war that constitutional rights persisted and could not be abridged (Lincoln assassination); thus those rights should still prevail (civil trial before peers, free speech, privacy, etc.) even in the aftermath of terrorist attacks (far less damage and loss of life than civil war and often not treasonous). The grief of our nation was exploited in a cheap power grab. The best way to remember those who were lost is to honor the noblest American tenets by which we purport to define ourselves: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness instead of fear, surveillance, and state-sponsored torture. Maya - NJ
A time of crises is just an opportune time for those in power to grasp for more. It's important is that we defend ourselves against those who want to exploit us. That is one of the many lessons we should remember on September 11. How can we do this with the unpatriotic Patriot Act being pushed into out Noble way of life? We stand up for who we are as Americans by not spying on them and having access to all of their personal information. The Patriot Act gives our leaders an endless supply of law and power to oppress not our enemies but its servants who fund it, "The American People." It is Americans that keep our Country safe and free ultimately. Attempting to exploit your fellow American with strong laws of oppression is like throwing a bacterium on a rotting banana. Stay free fellow Americans and serve no man but serve freedom on September 11th. Ross - PA
In the DFPM, RFP, and AFP co-exist within an individual, influencing the development of personality (Bedford and Yeh, 2019). RFP, originated from secure attachment style in parent-child bonds, adequate parental care, and appropriate discipline, can prevent children from manipulating others (Machiavellianism), being self-centered (Narcissism), and acting in the absence of guilt (Psychopathy, see Jonason et al., 2014; Liu et al., 2019). According to life history theory, negative early life experiences, such as harsh parenting and unpredictable parental behavior, may result in pathological personality development (e.g., exploitation, manipulation; Csathó and Birkás, 2018). AFP, which emphasizes obedience and obligations, is more likely to originate from families featured by harsh parenting (Bedford and Yeh, 2019). This suggests that high AFP individuals tend to adapt a fast life history strategy conducive to dark triad personality, while high RFP individuals tend to do the opposite (Jonason et al., 2017; Csathó and Birkás, 2018). Therefore, we propose that filial piety beliefs play essential roles in the development of dark triad personality that is closely associated with unethical decision making (Jonason et al., 2014; Frankenhuis et al., 2016; Csathó and Birkás, 2018; Mazzone and Camodeca, 2019; Abdollahi et al., 2020; Li et al., 2020). Specifically, dark triad traits play mediating roles in the relationship between filial piety and moral disengagement.
Although "the presumption in favor of disclosure is as strong [under Exemption 6] as can be found anywhere in the Act," (208) the courts have most vigorously protected the personal, intimate details of an individual's life -- consistently protecting personal information that, if disclosed, is likely to cause the individual involved personal distress or embarrassment. Courts regularly uphold the nondisclosure of information concerning marital status, legitimacy of children, welfare payments, family fights and reputation, (209) medical condition, (210) date of birth, (211) religious affiliation, (212) citizenship data, (213) genealogical history establishing membership in a Native American Tribe, (214) social security numbers, (215) criminal history records (commonly referred to as "rap sheets"), (216) incarceration of United States citizens in foreign prisons, (217) sexual inclinations or associations, (218) and financial status. (219) Even "favorable information," such as details of an employee's outstanding performance evaluation, can be protected on the basis that it "may well embarrass an individual or incite jealousy" among co-workers. (220) Moreover, re-lease of such information "reveals by omission the identities of employees who did not receive high ratings, creating an invasion of their privacy." (221)
Pro-lifers are excited. We've been dreaming for decades about a post-Roe world. It's incredible to think that at long last, it will finally be possible to approach this issue through normal democratic means. We can't waste much time celebrating, however. The pro-life movement is currently standing at the foot of the mountain, not the peak. Even if the right's jurists prevail in the coming battle, the larger culture war is likely to turn against us unless abortion-restrictive states can succeed at an even more daunting task: building a pro-life culture that the rest of the nation wants to emulate. Most especially, we need to prove that a pro-life world can be good for women. 041b061a72
